Traffic is extremely frustrating, but also incredibly dangerous. The more cars on the road, the higher likelihood of a traffic accident occurring. In fact, 25% of accidents throughout Canada are rear-end collisions.
The danger of accidents increase when drivers are:

  • Distracted,
  • Fatigued,
  • Impatient and aggressive, or
  • Fail to obey the rules of the road.

Rush hour in Canada is between 8am-9am, and between 5pm-6pm. There are a few things you can do to avoid rush hour traffic, which will reduce your chances of an accident.

  1. Plan Your Morning

Waking up earlier, and getting ready the night before, reduces the chances of being late. By getting a head start in the morning, you can beat the traffic, and start your day on time, productive, and relaxed.
2. Plan Your Escape
If you get to work early, see if it’s possible that you leave early, beating the 5pm-6pm rush hour. Likewise, if you leave late in the morning, stay late.
3. Change Your Route
People often take the fastest way home. But if the fastest was home is a busy street that has you sitting in traffic for 20 minutes, why not take the route that’s 10 minutes slower, but has no traffic. It saves gas, and reduces the risk of a collision.

Sometimes traffic is unavoidable. So it is important for you, and the driver’s around you, that you are awake, alert, and practice safe driving no matter the time of day.
