Saint Patricks Day is the most popular holiday for drinking and going out to bars. This leads to more drunk driving, and alcohol related accidents. If you plan to drink, be prepared and safe for the well-being of you, and everyone around you.

Here are some tips on staying safe this St. Pattys Day.

  1. Have a Designated Driver

Designate yourself, or a friend to be the designated driver for the group. Make sure to plan ahead so you aren’t caught in a situation where everyone has had a drink. While drunk, you may think you are suitable to drive, but it is never okay to drive under the influence. Have a plan. If you are the driver, take extra precautions and be extra alert, because even if you’re sober, it doesn’t mean everyone else on the road is.

2. Fuel Your Body

Make sure you eat before you consume alcohol, and drink lots of water. Drinking on an empty stomach is never a good idea. When eating, stay away from sugar, and salt, as it dehydrates you.

3. Stay By Your Drinks

Never leave your drinks unattended, and don’t accept drinks that are already open, or that you didn’t watch the bartender make. Always keep your drink in your field of vision.

4. Watch Out For Your Friends

Just like you’d hope your friends watch out for you, watch out for them. If you notice them changing behaviour, have them drink a glass of water, or eat something. Go places in pairs, and don’t let them drive, or get into a car with someone who has been drinking.

5. Host the Party

By hosting the party, you can keep an eye on things including the consumption of alcohol. By only inviting people you know, you can watch for changes in behaviour, take keys, leave out dangerous strangers that may be lingering in a bar, and offer a place for guests to stay the night.

Saint Patricks Day is a time to wear green, get together with friends, and have a fun night out. Take all the precautions to staying safe, and enjoy the fun holiday.
